Bonnie Tyler has a crazy voice. It’s painful and powerful and just plain bizarre. No one else sounds like her. She’s basically the female Meat Loaf, which is why her voice works so well with Jim Steinman’s songs. And since Meat Loaf is a male Wonder Woman, it’s only fitting that Bonnie Tyler is considered a female Wonder Woman. Click her to listen to Total Eclipse of the Heart on YouTube. It’s really one of the best pop songs ever written as far as I’m concerned. The modulations in it are ingenious.
I’m a huge fan of Tsunami Bomb and The Action Design. Agent M is a goddess. Love that voice. If she sang every pop punk song, I’d be a huge fan of pop punk. Since she doesn’t, I’m only really into her stuff. Click her for one of my favorite Tsunami Bomb songs.
EDIT: Problem with the song on YouTube so I changed the link.
Lara Flynn Boyle is underrated. She was hilarious in Happiness and Wayne’s World, and great on Twin Peaks. Her performances in those works earn her Wonder Woman status. Serious acting chops. She needs to do more good movies. Much better actress than she gets credit for.
Sonja Sohn played Detective Kima Greggs on the GREATEST TELEVISION DRAMA OF ALL TIME, The Wire. Her performance was so good that though the creators only intended her to be a character for a few episodes, they rewrote it so that she’d be on the show FAR longer. To me, she is the most compelling, heroic, and strong ‘good guy’ on the show, which is a milestone for female roles in television. For that she is a Wonder Woman.
Fiona Apple is the Wonder Woman of music, as far as I’m concerned. Easily one of the greatest pop singer-songwriters of all time. She has crafted a sound so uniquely her own, even among similar female artists of her generation. Click her to watch her give an amazing performance of ‘Sleep to Dream’.
Julianne Moore doesn’t always choose the best movies, but she has delivered amazing performances in some of the best films of the last two decades: Safe, Boogie Nights, The Big Lebowski, Magnolia, Far From Heaven, Children of Men, A Single Man. That list reads like someone’s favorite film list. It is mind-boggling that it is an actor’s partial filmography.
I’m a huge fan of Reno 911. Love the show, love the movie. Both are extremely underrated. I’ll probably list all the women from it on here in due time. Today I’m listing Wendi McLendon-Covey.
Clementine Johnson is a brilliant character. She may not cause as much belly laughs as Dangle, Terry, or Junior, but to me she’s the most three-dimensional. When she does make me laugh, it’s a laugh from a far deeper place. Wendi is just pitch perfect.
Like everyone else in the world, I’m a sucker for the combo of hilarious and beautiful. As such, I’m a fan of Whitney Cummings. She’s the Wonder Woman of standup comedy. Click her for one of her bits.
Eva Green is a fearless actress. Her performance in The Dreamers is one of my favorite performances by anyone, male or female. You can’t help but fall in love with her from the moment you see her, even knowing full well there is no chance the journey will end happily. She also deals with more difficult situations for an actress in the span of that movie than most actresses deal with in ten lifetimes, and rises to the occasion at every turn. For that she is a Wonder Woman.
Krysten Ritter has been amazing on three of my favorite shows in recent history (Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, and Gravity) I hear she’s great on Breaking Bad, too. She’s also a singer/songwriter, though I don’t particularly care for her music.
Usually I try to confirm whether or not Wonder Women are nice people before I add them to this Tumblr, but in this case I’mma just give her the benefit of the doubt. She seems nice.
